I hope this newsletter finds you all well. I wanted to give you a quick update on the work myself and the rest of the student government is doing. Last week on Wednesday we had our first general assembly and the senate had the opportunity to vote on the Pro-Temp Speaker of the Senate. This person facilitates and gives guidance to the senators from each college. With that being said I want to congratulate Mario Torres Alfaro on his appointment as Pro Temp Speaker I have full confidence in him to lead the senate to a successful summer and potential school year.
I have also been meeting with the COVID-19 Response Taskforce made up of faculty, staff, and administrators. We have been meeting three times a week to discuss and craft recommendations for the university leadership. We will be submitting our first set of recommendations to the President cabinet this upcoming week. I take my position in these meetings very seriously and do my best to raise concerns you all have expressed. If you ever have any questions feel free to reach out to me personally to modrowt@uhd.edu.
By this time I am sure you all have received the email from our new Interim President Dr. Tillis. I would like to commend his efforts to be transparent and open with the UHD community regarding communication and information that may affect us all. The 41st Student Government Association is also committed to being open and transparent in all that we do in service to the student body. With that being said I will be releasing our executive agenda for the upcoming school year so that you know what we are doing for you and so that you can hold us accountable.
I would like to conclude by thanking all of the faculty and staff at UHD for working tirelessly to develop plans for this upcoming fall semester. I also want to thank all of the student leaders at UHD that continue to hold events and workshops virtually with the student body.
As always if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions you can reach out to me by email.
Signing off,
Timoteo Alan Modrow
Student Government Association President
