My name is Cristal, and I’m a student parent at UHD. Being a student and a mom has been one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences of my life. Balancing classes, studying, assignments, and being there for my daughter can be difficult, especially on the days when I feel overwhelmed or exhausted. But becoming a mother has also given me a stronger reason to keep pushing forward and finish my degree.
There are days when I wonder how I’m going to manage everything, but I remind myself that I’m not only working toward my own future—I’m also building a better future for my daughter. She motivates me to keep going, even when things get hard.
Being a student parent has taught me that it’s okay to ask for help, take things one day at a time, and be proud of every small accomplishment.
My advice to incoming student parents is: Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and don’t give up on yourself. You may have difficult days, but you are capable of more than you think. Your children are watching you work toward your dreams, and that alone is something to be proud of.
