    We are hiring Certified Mat Pilates and Yoga Instructors!

    Schedule: 2–4 classes per week, Monday–Thursday between 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

    Compensation: Hourly rate of $15–$35, depending on certification level, experience, and class format

    Employment Type: Part‑Time / Campus-Based

    Seasonal Schedule: Follows campus academic calendar with breaks during summer and winter sessions

    Mat Pilates

    Strengthen your core, improve posture, and enhance flexibility with our Mat Pilates class. This low-impact workout focuses on controlled movements and mindful breathing to build stability and alignment throughout the body. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, you'll leave feeling stronger, longer, and more centered.

    Pilates at the Barre

    Experience a unique fusion of Afrobeats energy and Pilates precision in this dynamic, low-impact workout. Set to vibrant rhythms like Afrobeats, Reggae, and Soca, this class combines ballet-inspired footwork, full-body sculpting, and mindful movement for strength and flexibility. Using dumbbells and resistance bands, you’ll tone muscles, improve posture, and boost endurance—all while moving to the beat. Perfect for all fitness levels, this session delivers a fun, empowering way to build strength.

    Hip Hop Step

    Step is a high-energy cardio workout that uses a height-adjustable step platform to boost endurance, coordination, and agility. Set to upbeat music, this class combines choreographed movements with interval training to challenge your heart and muscles. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned stepper, you'll enjoy a fun, rhythmic workout that burns calories and strengthens your lower body.

    Yoga

    Yoga is class that involves mind-body connection which helps develop focus, balance, strength & flexibility. With each pose, the body grows stronger and more toned to function better on a daily basis. This class is designed to provide instructions on the basic yoga methods, breathing and stretching. All fitness levels are welcomed.

    Zumba

    Ditch the workout, join the dance party! Zumba blends upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography. This total body workout feels like a celebration. All fitness levels are welcomed.

    Instructor Bios

    Sienna

    Sienna Sun is a certified yoga instructor with over two years of experience teaching yoga. She aims to create inclusive and rejuvenating classes that help students, faculty, and staff reconnect with their bodies and minds. Sienna is passionate about promoting wellness and community through mindful movement—and when she’s not on the mat, you can usually find her on the pickleball courts or out exploring the outdoors.

    Joelle

    Joelle Jenkins is a certified yoga and Lagree instructor who loves helping others find strength, balance, and confidence through movement. With over eight years of experience in fitness and wellness, her classes focus on mindful alignment, endurance, and empowerment. Joelle values building genuine connections and believes movement is one of the best ways to bring people together. She’s excited to create a welcoming, uplifting community at the UH Wellness and Success Center where everyone can grow, recharge, and feel their best.

    Missy

    Missy Adeboyejo is a CPR and AFAA certified fitness instructor. She has been teaching fitness classes for three years and is currently teaching Step Aerobics on campus. She is a junior majoring in Biology, and passionate about health, wellness, and all things fitness. Missy loves running, watching shows in her downtime, and anything that involves sports. Missy's goal is to help others discover the joy of movement and build confidence through staying active.

    Jessica

    Meet Jessica, your Zumba instructor! She is a native Houstonian, wife, mom and volunteer! She currently volunteers at Baker Ripley Community Center as a Group Fitness Instructor. Since she can remember, she has loved to dance, but just for fun. Now, she is turning her passion for dancing into fitness routines and wants to share those moves with you! As an advocate of dance fitness, she believes that staying fit doesn't have to be boring. During her class, you will be learning everything Zumba, hip-hop, R & B and more!

    UHD Sports & Fitness Personal Training & Fitness Assessment

    Thank you for your interest in working with UHD Sports & Fitness Personal Trainers! We look forward to being a top resource for your Fitness & Wellness Journey. Please complete out Intake form, so our team can better assist you.

    Scheduling: All bookings for assessments & Personal Training Sessions are to be scheduled in-person at the Wellness & Success Center Member Service Desk a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

    Fitness Assessments: All students receive one free fitness assessment per semester and all non-student members of the Wellness & Success Center may book a fitness assessment for a low fee of $15. In order to book, one must complete the par-Q Health History Form and book in-person at the Wellness & Success Center Member Service Desk a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

    Personal Training Sessions: In order to book a one-on-one personal training session with a certified person trainer, clients must have had an initial Fitness Assessment within the past 6 months. If you have had an initial assessment within the past 6 month, then you may book training session in-person at the Wellness & Success Center Member Service Desk.

    Mateo Flores

    Mateo Flores is a personal trainer with 6 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education, specializing in physical literacy. Mateo is passionate about helping people feel strong, confident, and capable in their bodies. Mateo works with clients of all fitness levels, creating programs that help to build confidence, improve movement, and create sustainable habits. Mateo's goal is to make the gym feel welcoming, empowering, and achievable for everyone while focusing on smart training, consistency, and long-term results.

    Alec Gilbert

    Alec Gilbert is a personal trainer dedicated to helping clients build strength, move better, and feel confident in their bodies. With a strong foundation in physical therapy, Alec has been working in the field since 2022, gaining hands-on experience in movement mechanics, injury prevention, and rehabilitation-based training.

    His background in physical therapy sparked a deeper passion for one-on-one coaching, leading him to pursue his ISSA certification and begin training clients individually in 2025. Alec brings a thoughtful, intentional approach to fitness, bridging the gap between rehab and performance, to help clients train safely, effectively, and with purpose.

    Alec’s training style emphasizes proper technique, functional strength, and long-term progress. He understands that every body is different, and he meets clients where they are, whether they’re new to the gym, returning from injury, or looking to elevate their training.

    ACE Prep Course - Spring 2026 [CLOSED]

    Interested in health and fitness? Want to become a certified personal trainer? Register today for our prep course!

    This course gives you hands-on experience working with UHD Sports & Fitness while preparing for the ACE Personal Trainer Certification Exam—one of the most respected certifications accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

    ACE certification equips you to work with a wide variety of clients and help them achieve long-term health and fitness goals.

    Please note: Completing this course does not guarantee you will pass the exam, but it will give you the tools and knowledge to succeed.

    The following areas will be covered:

    • Learn key concepts from exercise physiology, kinesiology, elementary biomechanics, anatomy, motor learning and control, nutrition and healthy eating, weight management, stress management and basic sciences.
    • Review applications of the following knowledge areas: cardiorespiratory, physiology, metabolism, general physiology, the musculoskeletal system and principles of mechanics and physics as they relate to personal training.

    Personal Training FAQs

    What is Personal Training?

    • Personal training is one-on-one coaching that includes fitness assessments, goal setting, exercise techniques, and health education—all built into challenging workouts designed just for you.

    What should I wear to my first session/consultation?

    • Wear workout clothes and tennis shoes for your first session. Fitness assessments may make you break a sweat, so choose something comfortable.

    What happens during the initial consultation?

    • Your first session is key to your success. During your complimentary consultation, we’ll create a personalized program that fits your lifestyle and health goals. Most of this session will focus on your exercise and health history and setting your fitness goals.
    • Your consultation includes fitness assessments to measure your baseline in areas like endurance, strength, flexibility, and body composition. This helps your trainer create a program tailored to your needs and track your progress over time.

    What happens in a typical personal training session?

    • Your first few sessions focus on finding the right weights and time limits. Don’t worry—this is normal! It helps us understand your strengths and challenges so we can set you up for the best results.
    • Each workout builds on your first sessions. Wear comfortable workout clothes since you’ll be exercising. If you’re already fit and motivated, we’ll challenge you from the start!

    What if I need to reschedule or cancel a training session?

    • To reschedule a training session, please contact your trainer at least 24 hours before your appointment. If we don’t receive 24-hour notice, the session will be charged.
    • Our trainers value your time and theirs. If you need to reschedule, please give us at least 24 hours’ notice. We know unexpected things happen, and we appreciate your understanding!

    How long are personal training sessions?

    • We offer 60-minute sessions.

    Do sessions expire?

    • Yes, sessions must be used within 6 months of purchase.

    What should I do if I'm going to be late for my personal training session?

    • If you’ll be late, please contact your trainer directly. Your session will continue for the time remaining.
    • If you’re more than 15 minutes late and haven’t contacted your trainer, it counts as a no-show and the session will be charged.

    UHD Student Assistance Program

    The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is designed to help you maximize your health and effectiveness at home, school, or work. Through this program, you receive confidential, personal support for a wide range of issues, from everyday concerns to serious problems.

    Whether you want advice about a financial concern, need to talk to someone about drug use, or simply feeling overwhelmed by school life, your SAP can help. You have access to both online –www.liveandworkwell.com- and in-person support for a wide range of issues.

    Available anytime, these clinicians are experts in helping people identify the nature of their problems and finding the right resources to address them. All resources, including medical information, referrals and evaluations, are kept confidential in accordance with federal and state laws. Located in S445. Office hour vary daily.

    American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

    Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/First Aid/AED certification through the American Red Cross. Course registration will close two days before the advertised program date. If registration does not meet minimum requirements, participants will be contacted to transfer registration to the next available date.

    Swedish Massage

    Swedish massage helps loosen tight muscles, stretches connective tissues, relieves cramps, and muscle spasms, decreases muscle fatigue, loosens joints, improves range of motion, increases muscle strength, sedates the nervous system and stimulates blood circulation while firming up muscle and skin tone.

    Deep Tissue Massage

    Deep tissue massage allows nutirents to be brought up to the tissue level within the body. It relieves muscle spasms and facilitates emotional release.
