Interested in Participating in Intramural Sports?

All intramural participants must sign in via IMLeagues. Create an account on the UHD IMLeagues registration page or log in if you already have one.

Intramural Sports Overview

Intramural sports are competitions between individuals or teams of students of the same university campus. Intramural team sports normally have a regular season that builds up to play-offs and an eventual campus-wide championship. Intramural individual sports normally have a one-day tournament that determines the campus champion. Intramural teams normally do not have coaches nor have practices and play primarily for fun and recreation. Some intramural leagues are co-recreational, meaning men and women compete together.

Intramural Participation and Skill Levels

Player skills levels range from intermediate to advance. Beginners are strongly encouraged to participate in open recreation in that sport to gauge their skill level prior to registering for an intramural sport. The Department of Sports & Fitness at the University of Houston-Downtown organizes the competitions and the participants organize the teams. Players without teams may sign up as free agents. All the players have to do is show up, play fair and have a great time.

Three ways you can join a sport

Create a team for team sports or individual sports (for team managers)

  • Captains can invite members to their team by clicking the "Invite Members" link on the team page. Any invited members must accept the invitation to join your team.
  • If they've already registered on IMLeagues: search for their name, and invite them
  • If they haven't yet registered on IMLeagues: scroll down to the "Invite by Email address" box, and input their UHD email address

Join an existing team for team sports

  • Use the Create/Join Team button at the top right of every page
  • Accepting a request from the captain to join their team
  • Finding the team and captain name on division/league page and requesting to join
  • Going to the captain's player card page, viewing his/her team, and requesting to join

Join the sport as a Free Agent for team sports

  • You can register as a free agent and will be visible to all members of the site and can request to join teams, or post information about yourself so teams can request to add you to their team.
  • Registered free agents will attend Free Agent Day to form their own team

What do I get for participating in and/or becoming an intramural sports champion?

Team and individual champions will receive the same shirt with "Champion" on the shirt and will be recognized at the upcoming Sports & Fitness Awards Banquet.
    • Team sports: Eligible participants who are on team playoff rosters (played in more than half of their regular season games) will receive a t-shirt following their final playoff game on site. Eligibile participants who are not on a team playoff roster, but played in more than half of their regular season games, will get a t-shirt following their final regular season game on site.

    Where are intramural sports played?

    • For each team and individual sport you participate in, you may only play on one team.
    • Online tournaments: You may only play in one division for each sport. For example, you can only play a FIFA online tournament in the Xbox division or PlayStation division (cannot be in both divisions).

My team has a game scheduled but I know we can't make it. What should I do?

    • Teams that do not appear at their scheduled contest or are unable to produce enough players to field a team according to the rules of the participate sport will be assessed a forfeit and forfeit fee. The forfeit fee during league play is $20. Forfeit fee will be assessed via the team manager's student account. In order to be permitted back into the league that season, the team must pay a $20 forfeit fee by 4pm on the following business day.

How do I know if my outdoor game has been cancelled due to rain?

    • In the event of inclement weather, decisions regarding playing conditions will be communicated via email and through IMLeagues with all participants.

Can my friend come to watch my intramural game even though he/she doesn't have a membership?

    • Yes, your guest(s) can watch you play intramural sports. All guests must provide a valid photo ID and sign a waiver at the first or third floor entrance of the Student Life Center. Guests are only permitted to enter the area of the facility where the competition is being held in, including the restrooms. Guests are not permitted on the 2nd floor fitness center or 3rd floor area during intramural events.

I think I can officiate better than the people on the court!

    • Great! Apply to Sports & Fitness as a sports supervisor and come and prove it. Students who serve as officials are doing their best and are working to become as consistent as possible. We appreciate your feedback and appreciate your understanding.

I have a question but it isn't listed here. What should I do?

    • If you have a question about something that isn't addressed here, feel free to contact the Student Life Center at 713-221-8225 by phone or email at sports@uhd.edu.
